Here are a two useful links:

Avinash Kak’s Computer and Network Security Lecture Notes - I’ve already summarized and analyzed two sets of lecture notes from this set of notes for Kak’s course on Computer and Network Security. His course covers cryptography, computer networks, and network security. I have found these notes to be very informative and an excellent introduction to the subject.

Learn Python The Hard Way by Zed Shaw – After reading some of those lecture notes some may want to attempt some of the exercises Kak has at the end of each set of notes and to do that one would need to know how to program. If you already know how to program I hope you have fun trying to figure out the exercises but if you don’t this online book is a good way to start to learn how to program. This book teaches a programming language called Python, a language that is, in my opinion, one of the simplest to learn since it is fairly close to English (in comparison to other languages like C or Java). This book is only an introduction to the subject and to do some of Kak’s exercises (particularly the ones involving networks) requires a bit more research on how to use Python for network programming. So far I have not found a good (free) place to learn network programming but once I do I will post that link as well.
